There are health risks if filler is applied by inexperienced or poorly trained practitioners. This can include the accidental injection of filler material into blood vessels such as veins or arteries, which can result, in extreme cases in skin necrosis, blindness or even a stroke. Although fillers are applied by injection, we will use local anaesthetic cream to minimise any discomfort you may experience.

The duration of your treatment will vary depending on exactly what areas are being treated. Each injection takes only a few moments, followed by visual assessment of progress and then additional filler if required. The more applications, the longer the overall procedure is likely to take. In general, most sessions should take around 30 to 60 minutes.

Most filler treatments will last between 6 and 18 months, depending on the type of filler used. This is highly dependent on the type of filler used and where on the body it is administered. In general, touch-up treatments are recommended once a year to maintain initial results.

The number of treated areas (and thus the total quantity of filler used) will influence recovery time from filler treatment. However, most patients should find that within a day or two any redness, bruising or swelling should have almost completely disappeared. Within a week there will be no visible signs of the injection(s).

The effects of dermal fillers are usually noticeable immediately after the procedure. Results will continue to improve during the weeks and months after treatment as the filler fully settles and integrates into the tissue. 

We do not recommend getting dermal fillers while pregnant or breastfeeding. The filler itself should not have any negative effects. However, if you have an adverse reaction to the filler, it may be more difficult to treat the symptoms.

As with many filler treatments, patients may experience redness, bruising, swelling and itching at the injection site. These effects should subside in the days following the procedure.

If overused, fillers can cause premature ageing, with skin sagging or losing its lustre. This is why our team will always consult you fully before beginning any treatment, and will not offer treatment where they feel it would be inappropriate for a patient.
